- A big thank you to the committee and members of the Killinick Harriers for their cheque for 15,000 euro which was presented to the Ollie Byrne Trust Fund at a presentation in Piersetown recently

- Also a big thank you to the members of St. Martin's Club at Piersetown also for their support and for providing refreshments both on the day of the Hunt and also on the night of the presentation.  It was fantastic for Ollie to see the support that he got from all his neighbors and friends.

-The Killinick Harriers meet on Saturday 16th January was held in aid of Ollie's Trust Fund and proved to be a wonderful day for all.  There were 165 mounted followers as well as supporters from near and far.  Ollie himself had a great day and a big thank you to Margaret Kelly and her son William for bringing Ollie to the event and looking after him.

The committee of the Trust would like to thank all the people involved in this wonderful day for all their efforts and it was great that Ollie could be part of the day and meet so many people some that he had not seen for such  a long time.

-Ollie is doing very well in Cherrygrove Nursing Home in Campile and is enjoying lots of days out visiting with friends.  His new tv with all the sky channels is a great hit with him and he particularly enjoys being able to watch the Sky racing channels.

- We will have details on the website at a later date of the concert that is taking place by Christy Moore and where you can get tickets etc (date to be announced)

- Estimated 85,000 raised by Auction

- Big thank you to everyone who helped in any way:

Parachute jumps, hurling matches, the Athlacca Charity Ride Fund, the marathon, the Drogheda Memorial Fund, just to mention a few of the recent donations to the Trust.

Welcome to the Ollie Byrne Trust Fund Website

Raised so far - €122,000 (as at 13/05/10)

A Trust has been set up to help our dear friend Ollie Byrne after his tragic accident on 16th March, 2008.  The trustees are Iris Greene, Monica Cogan and Des Pettitt.  For those who do not know Ollie he is now paraplegic due to a fall at the Curragh in 2008.

Ollie was a wonderful horseman who was known and loved by all who met him both in his home county of Wexford and his adopted home in Kilkea, Co. Kildare. Working for Homer Scott at Lisheen Stud, Kilkea he became part of the racing scene in Kildare winning the charity race three times at the Punchestown festival.

Our Aims:

One of the aims of this committee was to buy a form of transport that could accommodate Ollie and his wheelchair so that he may visit friends which we have now achieved . This has really given Ollie something to look forward to and allows him to spend some time away from Cherrygrove Nursing Home,Campile, New Ross (051388060) where he now resides.  Also money is needed for physiotherapy that he needs and gives him great comfort. The sad reality of the situation is that Ollie has no movement from the neck down. He is overwhelmed by the response recieved so far and is watching everything that is happening with interest.

We are currently paying 27,000 a year to the hospital as there is a shortfall and also we want to get him a few little luxuries.

Fundraising:

Auction hosted by Ted Walsh with many of the top racing figures in attendance was held on 29th of June 2009.

In conjunction with our golf classic and auction on the 29th June we held a monster raffle.

Ollie Byrne Trust Fund Auction:

The committee would like to thank everyone who supported the Ollie Byrne Trust Fund in whatever form they did. Our Golf Classic and Auction were a great success and we were blessed with the best of weather and a great day was had by all! We were delighted with the support that we got and know that there are a lot of people out there who are thinking of Ollie and wishing him the best.
We will be writing to thank people who sent us donations etc in the near future but a big thank you to everyone concerned.
We will have details on the website at a later date of the concert that is taking place by Christy Moore and where you can get tickets etc
